Outstanding School Award 2010

We were very pleased to award St John Bosco Arts College with our ‘Outstanding School Award 2010′. Here is what the press had to say:

CROXTETH SECONDARY WINS TOP SCHOOL AWARD

St John Bosco Arts College has received the “Outstanding School Award 2010″ from leading educational training provider, Osiris Educational.

The Catholic girls school in Croxteth was awarded the prize after receiving Outstanding in their latest Ofsted inspection six weeks ago.

Outstanding School Award 2010

Osiris’ Managing Director, Stephen Cox said, “We awarded St John Bosco our Outstanding School award not just because of their latest Ofsted report but because of the continued training the staff receive. To go from Ofsted’s Satisfactory to Outstanding in six years is quite an achievement and we are proud to have helped them reach this.”

Teachers at the college have been receiving training from Andy Griffith, Director of Motivated and Loving It (MALIT) in association with Osiris Educational for 3 years. The training programme that was delivered is Outstanding Teaching, a modular programme for the whole school.

Head Teacher, Anne Pontifex explained the school took part in the programme to develop school culture and improve staff empowerment and confidence. Mrs Pontifex feels that Outstanding Teaching has helped break down staff resistance about being observed and has massively improved creative teaching across the school. She said, “The training is very motivating and inspiring. It creates a positive ethos amongst staff and helps us all analyse our teaching. We will definitely be carrying on with the programme next year.”

The students also appreciate the programme with one Year 12 student commenting, “Before the programme our lessons were led by the teacher with class discussions and power points. Now we use a technique called ‘the pit’ where we are challenged to think for ourselves with multiple questions. Even 15 minutes after the lesson we are still talking and debating the topic we have just studied.”

The award came just at the right time after the College discovered this week they were no longer receiving the £20m government grant for a rebuild in 2013.
