”As a consequence of the burgeoning interest in mindset theory, much outstanding practice has begun to flourish in schools across the country, and many practices that inadvertently acted to entrench fixed mindsets have been jettisoned. But many gross over-simplifications of the research have begun to take root too. Here are just three, that I’ve encountered many times:

  1. Ability/talent/genetic predispositions don’t exist.
  2. Ability/talent/genetic predispositions don’t matter.
  3. Hard work guarantees success.”
