Gavin Kewley
Gavin Kewley has experience as a teacher, manager, specialist teacher adviser, life coach and trainer.
He has been developing approaches to teaching and learning, managing behaviour and raising standards across KS2, KS3, KS4 and post-16, working at county through to individual student level. Initiatives have included, flexible learning, gifted and talented, personal and vocational education, school improvement, teaching and learning and SEN.
As a SENCO he ran a large learning support department, which included a unit for students experiencing behaviour difficulties and in danger of, or returning from, exclusion. He has extensive experience working with outside agencies and other specialists to establish a community response to the educational needs. His role also included developing strategies for raising attainment with all levels of ability and motivation.
Through solution focused workshops Gavin has enabled colleagues to develop a range of practical approaches to developing thinking and study skills and raising attainment. He has worked independently as a consultant, as a Beacon College recommended trainer and through Excellence in Cities. Current projects include work at KS2 on motivational assessment and FE on entrepreneurship. He also works at secondary level as a coach to both staff and students.
Gavin has training in counselling, coaching performance and NLP and is developing work with youth services to motivate disaffected young people. As a RYA Yacht Master he applies these techniques afloat as well as on land. ‘Getting Coaching Afloat’ is a course he designed and runs, developing the coaching skills of managers and team leaders as part of the crew of a yacht on a three-day voyage.
