Jaz Ampaw-Farr

Jaz Ampaw-Farr is quite simply a teacher with a passion for preventing literacy failure; a passion that lead her to establish Which Phonics – an independent group of teachers who train teachers and parents to use phonics.

Jaz has worked in a variety of educational settings offering solid, independent and unbiased advice and training in synthetic phonics.  Last December, Jaz brought synthetic phonics to the BBC as educational advisor and co-presenter on BBC1’s Hard Spell Abbey.  In addition, she recently worked with Jim Rose, examining synthetic phonics schemes and programmes on the DCSF Standards Site.

As a trainer Jaz’s enthusiasm is infectious and hugely motivating.  Over the last 14 years Jaz and her team have developed and extended the systematic approach to teaching the 40+ sounds of the English language pulling in the most effective parts of published schemes. She has worked in a variety of educational settings both in the UK and internationally, and taught synthetic phonics to many adults and children around the world.

“Inspirational . . . Jaz speaks with real conviction. She will change you and your teaching forever!”

“Inspirational to say the very least . . . Jaz’s energy and enthusiasm for her subject is really infectious.”
