Description

A consistent approach to coaching for your leadership team

This course is designed to help develop the skills and approaches that school leaders can use to hold powerful coaching conversations. It will cover:

  • All the micro-skills needed to create the space for exploratory coaching conversations

  • A variety of ways of structuring coaching sessions, focused on the coachee’s needs

  • Ways to coach both struggling and high- performing colleagues

Why choose an ILM coaching qualification?

ILM coaching qualifications are highly respected and rigorously assessed.

Recognised within and outside of education, this qualification is designed to bring consistency to your school’s coaching approach. It also offers the reassurance that all your coaches are working to the same high standard, for the benefit of all.

Who is the ILM Level 5 certificate in coaching and mentoring for?

This programme is designed for the core group who will be doing the coaching in your school. Group sizes are between 4 and 10 people and the ideal people to send on this open course are:

  • Members of the leadership team

  • Pastoral leaders who have supportive or supervisory roles

  • Middle leaders who the school is keen to develop.

Are there any entry criteria?

This level 5 programme is designed for those who are new or quite new to coaching, so there are no prior requirements. The main thing is that attendees have the opportunity to coach in their job, and that they are interested in the coaching process.

What you will take away from the course:

  • A clear understanding of the difference between coaching and mentoring, and when each approach is most effective

  • All the micro-skills (listening, questions, pausing, structure) needed to coach well

  • Plenty of opportunities to practise, receive feedback, know your coaching strengths and be able to continually develop them

Focus on you

Each school is at a different place on its coaching journey, so each course is tailored to the specific needs of the cohort that is attending. If coaching is new to everyone, then we’ll start with the basics. If there is a good grounding in coaching within the group, we’ll push on to an advanced level. We’ll do this in collaboration with each participant.

This qualification is run over a three-month period. It includes five full days with a choice of starting dates.
